Four teenagers arrested after a man died in an alleged hit and run

After a vehicle that was reportedly stolen collided with a motor scooter, a man was killed and a group of teens are facing serious charges.

The 59-year-old was brought to the hospital after the accident in Wynnum West, in Brisbane’s east, at around 9:20 a.m. on Monday, but died that evening.

The police will argue that a group of adolescents aged 15 to 16 in two automobiles left the scene.

The Nissan X Trail that collided with the scooter, according to the officers, was stolen from a neighbouring residence the morning of the collision.

It was discovered at the location and confiscated.

Shortly afterwards, the four suspects were located at a neighbouring residence and put into jail.

A second reportedly stolen vehicle was spotted nearby.

Monday morning, when the rider was returning home from a social gathering, the Nissan reportedly veered into the wrong side of the road and crashed with the scooter, according to police.

The accident, according to Inspector Lindsay Kilpatrick, was “tragic,” and both the Nissan and the scooter were seriously damaged.

On Monday, he said, ‘It’s both disappointing and frightening, it’s a tragic event for the male rider, his family, the local community, the witnesses, emergency services that have to come to these events.’

‘The impact on the front of the SUV, the stolen vehicle and the windscreen is very, very extensive and the damage to the motorcycle is very, very extensive as well.

‘But the detectives are investigating and they will get to the bottom of what happened.’

A neighbour said she heard the collision from her backyard.

‘The man was in very bad shape, one of his legs was completely twisted, it didn’t look good. Everyone was just shocked, one lady must’ve been a nurse and just went into full nurse mode and tried to help the man,’ Skye Aminita told the Courier Mail.

The suspected driver of the automobile involved in the collision is a 15-year-old boy who faces accusations of negligent driving resulting in death and fleeing the scene of an accident.

The suspected passenger, a 16-year-old female, has been charged with causing death by reckless driving and illegal use of a motor vehicle.

Two additional 15-year-olds, a boy and a girl, have been charged with unauthorised use of a motor vehicle.

They will appear before the Children’s Court in Brisbane.
