Former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, and elder statesman Tanko Yakasai have expressed their support for Godswill Akpabio, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, in his bid for the 10th Senate Presidency.

During a meeting with a group of former senators supporting Akpabio and Senator Barau Jibrin for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively, Osoba urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to organize a meeting with all aspirants for the Senate President position to rally their support for Akpabio.

Party Unity Crucial to Avoid Crisis

Osoba stressed the importance of avoiding any crisis as the ruling party is already dealing with the fuel subsidy removal issue.

He called on all supporters to engage in a serious lobbying effort to convince the aspirants to align themselves with the party’s choice.

Yakasai Supports Akpabio’s Candidacy

Elder statesman Tanko Yakasai also voiced his support for Godswill Akpabio, citing his previous accomplishments and credentials.

Former Kano North Senator, Basheer Lado, called upon Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu and former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, to throw their support behind Godswill Akpabio.

Lado believed that Akpabio’s presidency would benefit the country and enable the national assembly to work effectively with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, fostering good governance and democratic dividends.

Appeal for Party Cohesion and Withdrawal of Other Candidacies

Lado emphasized the importance of national stability, peace, and party cohesion, urging other aspirants to withdraw their candidacies in the interest of the country.
