Fatal car crash claims the life of 3 passengers in South wales

Police in South Wales have discovered the bodies of three people who were part of a group of five who disappeared after a night out.

Gwent Police have confirmed that the two others who were missing have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. The group, comprising three women and two men, were last seen in Cardiff in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police believe the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision and left the A48. The three women, Sophie Russon, Eve Smith and Darcy Ross, aged 20, 21 and 21 respectively, had travelled to Cardiff from Porthcawl with Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Shane Loughlin, 32, both from Cardiff, who were also reported missing.

The VW Tiguan in which they were travelling was found by police early on Sunday in the St Mellons area of Cardiff.

Relatives of the missing group have expressed concern at their disappearance. The mother of Sophie Russon, Anna Certowicz, drove around the Gwent and Cardiff areas looking for her daughter after police officers told her to stop calling for updates.

Sophie, Eve and Darcy had been friends since childhood, and the families of all three have reported that they had not heard anything from the women.

Eve Smith’s sister Lauren Doyle reported that her sister’s car keys and bank card were with their mother, meaning she had no access to transport or funds.

The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in accordance with standard procedures.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the police. Specialist officers are supporting the families of those involved.

Locals have been driving between Newport and Cardiff in search of the missing group, and a post has been shared in a local sea fishing group urging people to get in touch if they spot anything.

The Trecco Bay Holiday Park, where the group were last seen, has confirmed that they were not registered guests but are assisting the police with their enquiries. It is believed that South Wales Police are also involved in the investigation.
