Eritrea celebrates International Blood Donation Day with the theme “Blood Donation is an Expression of Humanity”

On the 12th of June, Barentu celebrated International Blood Donation Day on a national level with the theme “Blood Donation is an Expression of Humanity.”

Ms. Alem Berhe, chairperson of the National Voluntary Blood Donation Association, said that International Blood Donation Day, which falls on June 14th, is a day when those who have saved lives with their blood feel proud and others pledge to respond to the call to donate blood to save lives with their renewable blood.

Ms. Alem went on to state that the association’s goal is to raise public awareness about the value of blood donation in saving lives, enhancing the national blood supply, and expanding the organization’s activities across the country.

Mr. Gebremeskel Embaye, chairman of the voluntary blood donation association branch in the Gash Barka Region, stated that approximately 3 thousand units of blood were collected between 2015 and mid-2022, indicating that the increased number of nationals joining the association attests to the public’s growing awareness.

On his part, Governor of the Gash Barka Region, Ambassador Mahmud Ali Hiruy, expressed the region’s willingness to support the association in all of its initiatives.

Cultural and artistic activities, as well as a general knowledge contest and the presentation of awards of appreciation to organizations and individuals who made significant contributions to the program, were highlights of the event.
