Eritrea celebrates World Music Day

Yesterday, July 18, World Music Day was celebrated at the Cinema Asmara in this city’s centre.

The World Music Day is being observed for the first time, according to Ambassador Zemede Tekle, Commissioner of Culture and Sports, who spoke at the event.

The Commission will take the duty in collaboration with partners to observe the day in a festive manner each year.

Indicating that celebrating World Music Day elevates the idea that “music is a universal language,” Mr. Barnabas Mebrahtu, a musician association member, noted that music plays a significant role in the Eritrean people’s everyday socioeconomic life.

The event included narrations and documentaries that covered the day.

The first World Music Day celebration took place in 1982 at a French festival, and it is now celebrated annually on July 21.
