The commission has also confirmed the detention of former Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, over an alleged N22 billion fraud.

Setting the Record Straight:

During a press briefing, EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa responded to recent allegations made by Governor Matawalle and urged the public not to be swayed by his remarks.

The commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Osita Nwajah, clarified that the EFCC was not obliged to respond but chose to do so to correct misconceptions.

Governor’s Attempted Supervision:

The EFCC highlighted that Matawalle cannot dictate whom the commission investigates, likening his statements to a “thief” requesting immunity until others are caught.

Nwajah emphasized that it is not within Matawalle’s authority to decide who the EFCC arrests and when.

Equal Treatment Under the Law:

The EFCC stressed that its custody includes individuals from diverse backgrounds and positions, regardless of social class or position.

The commission’s detention facility accommodates individuals who have allegedly committed crimes, whether they are priests, Imams, governors, or ministers.

Lack of Concern for Other Cases:

The EFCC pointed out that Governor Matawalle conveniently ignored the case of the former Minister of Power, who is currently in EFCC custody facing corruption allegations amounting to N22 billion.

This highlights the agency’s commitment to addressing corruption irrespective of an individual’s status or position.

Commitment to Justice:

The agency’s actions are driven by its mandate to combat corruption and promote transparency in governance.

The EFCC’s response to Governor Matawalle’s allegations highlights its determination to address corruption and hold individuals accountable for their actions.
