Edo Communications Sector holds a one-day retreat to build synergy among communication agencies

The Communications Sector in the State of Edo is a single entity and should remain so, said the Acting Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Friday, April 24, 2022.

Shaibu stressed the significance of utilizing information from the various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and other arms of government towards a synergized communication ecosystem while formally opening a one-day retreat for the communication sector organized by the State’s Ministry of Communication and Orientation.

He claimed that dispersing contradictory information can backfire, particularly in this day of social media journalism.

He also urged the retreat attendees to be forthcoming so that the State could build a strong communications sector that could consistently deliver clear messages and information to the population.

Earlier, when welcoming the attendees, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Adaze Emwanta, stated that the retreat was necessary due to the ease with which social media spreads false and inaccurate information. He also stated that it is intended to foster collaboration among the agencies tasked with communicating the government’s activities

The Commissioner asserts that while spreaders of misleading information will always proliferate, a synergized communications sector will unquestionably and consistently triumph with accurate information. But he expressed optimism that the retreat would give birth to a transformed communications sector in the state.

Speaking in her own capacity, Mrs. Sarah Ajose-Adeogun, Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy, Policy, Project, and Performance Management, exhorted the attendees to achieve high performance, which she claimed might be the outcome of a skilled and coordinated communication sector.

Dr. Elvis Omoregie, the resource person, focused on the various communication channels and strategies in telling and developing the Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) stories and brand as well as the various communication models among other elements in order to do justice to the theme.

Stakeholders and dignitaries in the Edo State communication sector attended the retreat with the theme “Building Synergy in Edo State Government Communications” with the goal of developing a centralized and comprehensive approach to communicating the government’s vision as expressed in policies and programs.

The awarding of prizes to meritorious communication industry participants who had made significant contributions to the growth of the sector in the State was the event’s high point.
