Nigerian Army aims to improve synergy with security agencies – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya says the vision of the Nigerian Army is aimed at improving the synergy with security agencies in the country.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya stated this on Friday, May 6, 2022 while delivering a lecture and interacting with senior officers who participated in a course at the Army War College in Abuja.
He explained that the lecture titled; ‘A Professional Nigerian Army ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions in a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria,” was to discuss his vision for the Nigerian Army, as well as to highlight the pillars of his command.

“Cooperation covers integration and synergy with other services and security stakeholders, it requires adaptable tactics, techniques and procedures, flexible mindset and the acquisition of Military platforms to operate in a Joint Environment. Cooperation in our working relationship with all stakeholders is an essential factor of success in our operations

“I shall emphasize synergy at all levels and cordial working relationship with all security stakeholders to fulfil our collective goal to defend Nigeria. We shall bridge all existing gaps in our relationship with services and agencies through robust joint interagencies and intergovernmental frameworks to confront current security challenges. My leadership philosophy emphasises on jointness in all national security endeavours.“

He highlighted some of the key areas of his leadership focus including sound leadership, higher ethical standards, vision and understanding of the command.

Others are; Professionalism, realistic training, enforcement of reward system and discipline adding that the course being taken by the Senior officers is an important one to the career of an officer.

“This is a very important course in the career of the senior officers that are now key operators of Army operations, policies and other activities and this also gives the Chief of Army Staff an opportunity to interact with all the participants to talk on issues affecting the Army and to chart a way forward. We have also taken important decisions that would help to improve our operations, activities and engagement in pursuit of the vision of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to bring security to Nigeria.“

The Army Chief further expressed hope that the lecture would inspire the participants to set visions towards achieving goals that would propel the armed forces towards greater heights.

Course six which was inaugurated on April 8 has seventy-three participants including fifty-eight army officers, two officers from the Nigerian Navy and two from the Air Force and five from four allied countries of Gambia, Liberia, Congo Brazzaville and Rwanda.

Other participants include one each from the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Customs Service, Immigration, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
