Earthquake strikes Cornwall, residents report feeling vibrations in their houses

Cornwall has experienced an earthquake that caused several residents to feel their homes shake. The earthquake monitoring site VolcanoDiscovery recorded the earthquake around 10.7 km south of Redruth at 6:38 am.

Local residents living between Redruth and Mabe reported feeling the tremor. The magnitude is currently listed as “unknown,” but VolcanoDiscovery estimates it to be 2.6.

The site has received 24 reports of the earthquake, and shaking intensity is described as “very weak.” Some residents reported hearing a “rumble” that sounded like a “large vehicle,” with no major damage reported.

The last recorded earthquake in Cornwall was in October 2022 with a magnitude of only 0.5.
