E-mail shows that Dr.Fauci was involved in a paper attempting to disprove COVID Wuhan origin

Recently released emails show that Dr. Anthony Fauci, former head of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, commissioned and edited a scientific paper to disprove the theory that COVID-19 originated in a lab in Wuhan, China.
The paper claimed it was “improbable” that the virus leaked out of a lab. However, just a few weeks later, Fauci cited the paper at a press conference as evidence that the lab leak theory was implausible.
The bombshell emails released by House Republicans on Sunday show that Fauci prompted the lead author of the paper, Dr. Kristian Andersen, to write the paper with the goal of disproving the lab leak theory.

The emails revealed that Fauci had final approval on the paper and submitted it to Nature Medicine on February 12, 2020.

However, a report by House Republicans said that Fauci’s claim that Andersen objectively researched the origins of COVID-19 was “demonstrably false.”

Others apparently worked to ensure that the paper strongly dismissed the idea of a lab leak. The report pointed to a February 8, 2020 email in which Andersen stated that “our main work over the last couple of weeks has been focused on trying to disprove any type of lab theory.”

The report by House Republicans also states that Farrar, then the head of the British nonprofit the Welcome Trust and now the Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization, attempted to push through an edit replacing the word “unlikely” to “improbable” in a statement about the possibility of a lab leak origin.

Despite the edits, Collins emailed Fauci “expressing dismay that Proximal Origin — which they saw prior to publication and were given the opportunity to edit — did not squash the lab leak hypothesis and asks if the NIH could do more to ‘put down’ the lab leak hypothesis.”

The next day, Fauci cited Proximal Origin from the White House podium when asked if COVID-19 leaked from a lab.

The report comes just months after a Senate report found that the COVID-19 pandemic was most likely the result of a lab leak.

The report concluded that China’s “unwillingness to cooperate or open up the lab in question meant it ‘no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt.’”

The report added that “the hypothesis of a natural zoonotic origin no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt, or the presumption of accuracy.”

A report by the US Office of Inspector General found that the NIH did not properly review whether the tests in Wuhan involved dangerous pathogens with pandemic potential.

While evidence for and against the lab-leak theory has been debated, many experts suggest the virus is most likely of natural origin.

A joint investigation by the World Health Organization and China concluded it was “very likely” the virus jumped from bats to humans via an as-yet-unknown intermediary animal.
