Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam”: 7 overlooked details

Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam”: 7 overlooked details

Cyclone and Tornado, Red

Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.
Warner Bros. Films

Cyclone gains access to Hawkman’s Louisiana home by communicating with the A.I. guarding the gates. When it verifies her identification, it quickly displays facts about her past, and the term “Red Tornado” is briefly displayed.

This is due to the fact that her mother, Ma Hunkel, was the original Red Tornado. Ma Hunkel was an integral component of the “All-American” line of comics in the 1930s and 1940s, even though she didn’t don her Red Tornado costume until “All-American Comics” #20, despite her origins as a parody character with tremendous strength and cooking skills.

DC did not launch the slightly more serious android version of Red Tornado until the late 1960s. However, references to the Red Tornado are not limited to Ma Hunkel.

T.O. Morrow is a DCEU character.

Artist: Jose Luis/DC Comics

During the way to Kahndaq, Cyclone and Atom Smasher discuss their various superpowers. Cyclone says that she was abducted by a mad scientist as a teenager and subjected to nanobyte injections.

This is the source of her cyclonic powers. This is long-time DC villain T.O. Morrow, although she does not mention him by name. In the comics, Morrow created the first Red Tornado android in order to steal items from the 20th Century Museum.

And when Maxine was six years old, Morrow kidnapped her and used the nanobytes to give her superpowers, which did not appear until much later in life.

Lords of the Order.

Pierce Brosnan in the role of Doctor Fate.

Warner Brothers

Although “Black Adam” is not the first live-action adaptation of Doctor Fate (thanks to “Smallville”), Pierce Brosnan defined the role for the DC Extended Universe.

Thankfully, “Black Adam” does not bog itself down with lengthy backstories for each and every hero that appears in the picture; it simply presents them and lets them to win over the audience.

Doctor Fate briefly explains that he works for the Lords of Order, a mysterious group of beings from a higher level of existence in the universe, which helps newer fans get to know them a little better. Using Doctor Fate to maintain a balance between them and their antagonistic opponents, the Lords of Chaos, they control magic and its use throughout the DC Universe.

The spirit of one of the lords, Nabu, resides in Doctor Fate’s helmet, and it is this spirit that gives Pierce Brosnan’s character, Kent Nelson, his abilities. Numerous personalities have donned the helmet over the years in the comics, since the Lords of Order choose a new candidate to assume the Doctor Fate mantle whenever the previous one dies. It is now owned by Khalid Nassour, a recent entrant to the DC Universe.

Since Kent dies at the conclusion of “Black Adam,” Warner Bros. might perhaps introduce a new, younger Doctor Fate in a future film.

Black Adam is unaware of Shazam.

Zachary Levi portraying Shazam.

Warner Bros. Films

Amon Tomaz (Bodhi Sabongui), the son of Adrianna Tomaz, is undoubtedly enamored with superheroes because he wishes a member of the Justice League would save Kahndaq from Intergang. However, as Adrianna is keen to point out, no one has stepped forward to offer assistance over the years.

Amon’s room is decorated with superhero posters, toys, and other products despite this fact. Billy Batson (Zachary Levi) has made quite a name for himself since the release of the “Shazam!” film, as seen by the presence of several Shazam toys and posters in his room.

Considering that he’s already dealt with the Council of Wizards and the wizard Shazam, it’s surprising that Black Adam doesn’t realize that the figures bear the same symbol that’s on his breast (Djimon Hounsou).

Although Adam had just regained consciousness after being knocked unconscious and was unaware of his surroundings, it would have been a good setup for a future encounter between the two characters.

Adrianna Tomaz is a DC hero as well.

Sarah Shahi as Adrianna and Isis in “52” #12.

Warner Brothers Films/Eddy Barrows/DC Comics

Sarah Shahi portrays Adrianna Tomaz, a revolutionary who seeks to liberate Kahndaq from its captors, in the film. She acknowledges Black Adam’s cultural significance among the country’s people. Despite the fact that she lacks superpowers in the 2022 film, the character has an alter ego in the comics named Isis.

This version of the character originally appeared in “52” #3 in 2006 as Black Adam’s love interest; she derives her abilities from the Amulet of Isis. Although Shazam had to imbue the amulet with some of his own magical powers in order for her to use it.

If Shahi is to eventually don the comic-accurate Isis costume, Black Adam must meet Zachary Levi’s character.

Emilia Harcourt and Amanda Waller continue to collaborate.

Jennifer Holland stars in “Peacemaker” as Emilia Harcourt.

Warner Bros. Films

Because Black Adam’s power is nearly limitless, he swiftly appears on the radar of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), and it is she who sends the JSA and Superman after him.

Fans will recall that Waller oversees the supervillain prison Belle Reve Penitentiary and Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad.

One of the supporting cast members from James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” makes a cameo appearance in the film when the Justice Society of America brings Black Adam to an underwater jail, which plainly prevents the most dangerous criminals from harming the globe.

Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) transfers Adam into his stasis pod, marking her third appearance in the DCEU.

Harcourt is one of the primary cast members in Gunn’s “Peacemaker” television series, in which she collaborates with the titular antihero. Nonetheless, it would be intriguing to watch how she regained Waller’s favor after the season finale of HBO’s Max.
