The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a warning regarding possible attacks on worship and recreational centers during the upcoming Eid Kabir celebrations.
This caution follows the recent discovery of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during a joint operation conducted by the DSS, Nigerian Army, and Police.
Vigilance Urged for Operators of Public Spaces
Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, emphasized the need for vigilance among operators of public spaces, including shopping malls.
The DSS statement highlighted reports indicating plans to target such gathering places before and during the Eid festivities, with the discovery of IEDs serving as evidence to support these concerns.
Call for Public Cooperation
The DSS statement called on operators and patrons of public places, such as markets and malls, to remain watchful and promptly report any suspicious movements or individuals to the relevant security agencies.

Recent Operations in Nasarawa and Kogi States
The DSS, in conjunction with the Nigerian Army and Police, has been actively conducting operations in Nasarawa and Kogi States.
On June 19, 2023, a suspected gunrunner named Abubakar Muhammad was arrested along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway in Keffi LGA of Nasarawa State.
During the operation, the team seized various items, including ammunition, IEDs, cash, and a Volkswagen Golf vehicle.
Encounter with Notorious Gang Leader in Kogi State
In another operation on June 22, 2023, in Ejule, Ofu LGA of Kogi State, the team engaged in a gunfight with Kabir Bala, a notorious gang leader and a previous jailbreaker.
While Bala was neutralized, his accomplices managed to escape.
The operation led to the recovery of an AK47 rifle, locally fabricated weapons, phones, and charms.
