Managing Director/CEO LAWMA says the Authority is prepared to tackle the expected huge volume of waste to be generated during Eid-el-Kabir festivities

Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, the managing director and chief executive officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has assured the public that the organisation is determined to remove all trash produced during the Sallah celebrations in order to create a long-lasting, clean environment.

He made the comment on Thursday as he reviewed the Authority’s degree of readiness to deal with the massive amount of waste that is anticipated to be produced during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

According to Odumboni, the various operational regions are well-positioned to handle the additional volume of waste anticipated from city inhabitants with ease.

His words: “We are well aware that the Sallah period will leave us with tons and tons of waste to evacuate. Be assured that we are fully prepared and equipped for the task. It is not the first time we will be doing it; we will do it again and even better this time around.

“Our various operational districts have been properly positioned and empowered to tackle the expected task. This is just to assure you that LAWMA is fully prepared for the challenge”.

The General Manager went on to say that despite the ongoing issue of high diesel prices, LAWMA is overcoming obstacles to carry out its mandate and has instructed PSP operators to find a solution to the clear problem and provide the necessary services to the public for the benefit of everybody.

Odumboni revealed that one of the extra precautions taken for a dirt-free celebration entails the widespread distribution of trash bags at Muslim prayer locations to encourage believers to properly bag their waste, particularly animal waste. She also noted that a newspaper advertisement listing the names and contact information of LAWMA officials has been created to help residents learn how to get prompt service intervention.

He advised Lagosians to refrain from carelessly disposing of rubbish on road medians, waterways, unfinished constructions, and other unauthorised sites, and to observe the festivities with moderation and piety in accordance with spiritual injunctions.

The LAWMA boss also announced that the Authority’s management staff had been sent to various sites throughout the city to keep an eye on the environment throughout the time. He urged locals to get in touch with the organisation via its toll-free lines at 07080601020 or 617 with any inquiries.

While wishing all Muslim believers a pleasant holiday, Odumboni urged locals to avoid any actions that would have a detrimental effect on the environment, emphasising that everyone has a responsibility to actively participate in fostering a sustainable and clean environment.
