The 39-year-old female driver attempted to pass the tractor-trailer, but instead swerved into its side, as seen on shocking dash cam footage.

According to the Derbyshire Constabulary, the woman survived with only a scraped knee and discomfort from the seatbelt.

After the collision, the truck can be seen swerving, but it was able to recover and continue driving along the A50 near Findern, Derbyshire.

The driver, who has not been identified by police, failed a roadside breath test on June 19 of last year after blowing three times the permissible limit of 35 milligrams, or 140 milligrams.

The driver pled guilty at Leicester and Rutland Magistrates’ Court on June 6 to driving a car while over the legal alcohol limit.

She was given an eight-week prison sentence, but it was suspended for 18 months.

The driver was also barred from driving for five years and given an eight-year curfew.

The court has ordered her to pay court costs and a victim surcharge.

Sergeant Scott Riley of the Roads Policing Unit of the Derbyshire Constabulary stated, ‘This incident could have easily resulted in the driver’s or others’ deaths.
