Detectives request murder charge in downtown stabbing

Detectives have asked that a 48-year-old man be charged with murder after the man he bludgeoned with a metal rod died as a result of his injuries last week.

An officer at 3rd Avenue and Pike Street on August 2nd, just after 3:00 p.m., saw a guy assaulting another man with a heavy metal stick. Officers apprehended the culprit and started administering first aid to the victim. Upon their arrival, Seattle Fire Department medics took over treatment and transported the guy to Harborview Medical Center. On August 6th, the 66-year-old man died as a result of his injuries.

The suspect is still being held in the King County Jail.
