After raising the alarm with its owner when her partner collapsed and almost drowned in the household hot pool, a puppy imitated the bravery of fictional Collie Lassie.
Harley, a five-year-old French Bulldog, was relaxing on the hot tub lid when Lottie, a 13-week-old Cockapoo, began to play and jostle.
The hot tub’s improperly closed cover falls into the water as a result of the weight of both dogs bouncing about on one side of the tub.
With no way to escape, Harley is hurled sliding tail over head into the warm water.
Fortunately, Lottie recognises right away that something is wrong and is desperately searching for a way to assist.
As soon as she realises she can’t get Harley out of the water, she dashes to the back door and begins barking for assistance.
Owner Eva Davidson, 13, goes into the yard after hearing Lottie calling from inside and finds Harley only inches from from drowning.
He eventually escapes the water thanks to her prompt running over and rescue.
Eva notified her 54-year-old father Stephen Davidson about the event, and he reviewed his surveillance footage to see what had been captured.
The video of the resourceful dog rescuing her companion makes me think of the mythical dog Lassie.
In an 1859 short tale, Lassie made her first appearance, saving two brothers who became trapped in the snow.
Lassie was given a scarf to wear around her neck as she rushed home and led a search team to the lads.
When I heard that Harley had fallen into the bathtub, I knew that my CCTV would have captured everything, according to Stephen from Ballynahinch, Northern Ireland.
We watched the video again, and Lottie’s response is amazing.
She deliberately raises the alarm when she realises that he is in danger.
French Bulldogs are terrible at treading water because of their heavy heads and very dense bones.
If it weren’t for Lottie, Harley would have definitely perished when he fell in. I can only imagine how terrified he was.
