City Transportation condemns the youth inappropriate behaviour towards Durban transport buses

The city’s transportation authority cautions residents about the dangers of throwing rocks at buses and the dangers of riding on the back bumper of a moving bus.

Young adults, including school children, have engaged in this unsafe behavior, according to Durban Transport.

Especially in districts like uMlazi and Ntuzuma, stoning and bumper riding of buses has been the norm on most afternoons.

About 82 buses had their windows shattered in the last six months as a result of stone-throwing. While the bus windows are being restored, this has an impact on the City’s capacity to provide an effective public transportation service. This causes Council to incur needless costs and has an impact on transport availability.

Damage to Municipal property is a criminal violation that may result in legal action.

Youths are cautioned from riding on the backs of moving buses, which is dangerous for them and other motorists and could be fatal.

The city is urging parents and the general public to help stop this harmful conduct.

Any events witnessed by the public should be reported to the police or the uMlazi Depot at 031 906 2651, the Ntuzuma Depot at 031504 3421, or the eThekwini Transport Authority at 082 268 4185.
