The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for his recent statement regarding Muslim dominance in Nigeria’s politics.
In a viral video, El-Rufai allegedly asserted that Islamic dominance, similar to that in Kaduna, would persist in the country for an extended period.
CAN Responds to El-Rufai
During an interview on Arise News, Reverend John Hayab, Chairman of CAN in Kaduna State, expressed his dismay over El-Rufai’s comments.
He stated that while the statement was unfortunate, it was not surprising, as El-Rufai has a history of making divisive remarks that could potentially incite religious conflicts.
El-Rufai’s Reputation and Intentions
Hayab further emphasized that El-Rufai has a track record of engaging in such rhetoric and orchestrating divisive actions.
He believes that El-Rufai’s true character has been exposed through the video, revealing his unchanged nature and deceptive tendencies.
Hayab also pointed out that El-Rufai’s remarks indicate an attempt to manipulate public perception and outsmart others.
Criticizing El-Rufai’s View on Tinubu’s Victory
Hayab strongly disagreed with El-Rufai’s claim that President Bola Tinubu’s victory was solely due to Muslim votes.
He argued that such thinking reflects El-Rufai’s own inferiority complex, as he constantly seeks to prove his strength and importance.
Hayab highlighted that Tinubu’s triumph was a result of collective voting by Christians as well, citing examples from states with predominantly Christian populations.
El-Rufai’s Hidden Agenda
Hayab urged Nigerians to understand the motives behind El-Rufai’s statements.
He suggested that El-Rufai is pursuing a hidden agenda, and it is crucial for the public to remain vigilant and observe the outcome of his actions.
Hayab concluded that engaging in debates with someone driven by ulterior motives would only be a waste of time, and it is more important to discern the underlying agenda and monitor its development.
