Mathematics Association of Nigeria awards Mr. Abayomi Abolaji prize for supporting Association

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, received a prize from the Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN) for his support, excellent leadership, and contribution to the growth of the Association.

MAN also honored 12 students who excelled in the 2022 National and Lagos State Mathematics Olympiad and Quiz Competition during its 25th Annual Conference and Awards ceremony, which was recently held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium Alausa, Ikeja, with the theme: “Building Strategy for the Understanding of Mathematics.”

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, encouraged mathematics instructors to include practical applications into their lessons during her speech at the event. She said that doing so would help pupils better relate to the many mathematical themes.

She urged the Association to set up peer learning WhatsApp groups for coaching, ongoing learning, and idea sharing between students and instructors so that they may benefit from one another’s knowledge.

She said: “They should educate and understand how to merge fundamental and digital skills, creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, teamwork and practical learning.”

The Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN) was commended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Abolaji Abayomi, for implementing numerous activities and programs in Lagos State.

“Mathematics is a fascinating topic that very few people are familiar with. According to the report regarding their many activities at both elementary and secondary schools in the State, MAN is the most active subject association in Lagos State. For the sake of mathematics instructors and students in Lagos State, the organization always has some kind of activity, he added.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the event’s subject, “Building Strategy for the Understanding of Mathematical,” is highly appropriate given the necessity for instructors to employ a variety of approaches while teaching diverse mathematics courses.

He urged the organization to invite other subject association CEOs to their programs so they may share knowledge and adopt alternative approaches to solve mathematical problems in keeping with the topic.

According to him, elementary and secondary school math instructors in particular need to learn more about how to develop tactics that would make math lessons enjoyable for pupils.

The Vice Chairman of the MAN, Lagos State Chapter as well as the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mrs. Odubolanle Okudipe, congratulated all dignitaries and association members for the programs’ success and praised the students for their outstanding performances in both local and national contests.

Numerous methods for comprehending mathematics were discussed by the guest speaker, Professor Olaoye Adetunji Abiola of the Department of Science and Technical Education at Lagos State University.

The ceremony’s highlight came when Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, the commissioner for education, presented the award plaque and certificates of distinction to the recipients.
