Chris Rock finally speaks out about Will Smith’s slap

After a year of silence, Chris Rock finally speaks out about the infamous incident in which Will Smith slapped him at the 2022 Oscars.

According to an exclusive source, Rock plans to address the situation during his live Netflix stand-up special, “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage,” which will stream live from the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore on Saturday.

The source notes that Rock has relied on the help of veteran comedy writers to refine his jokes about the incident and ensure that they are both funny and appropriate.

Although the material won’t dominate Rock’s show, the insider suggests that fans should stick around until the last joke.

Previously, Rock had refrained from mentioning the incident on his “Chris Rock Ego Death World Tour,” but he did sprinkle in some material about it at various gigs.

For example, after Smith posted a video apology to him, Rock said, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”

He also told a UK crowd, “Will did the impression of a perfect person for 30 years, and he ripped his mask off and showed us he was as ugly as the rest of us.”

It has been challenging for Rock to test out his material about the incident while keeping it under wraps, as most stand-ups like to test their material in smaller clubs before taping a special.

However, the source notes that Rock is excited to finally address the situation and share his humorous take on it with his fans.

In addition to the special, Netflix has added pre- and post-show specials to the Rock event, featuring appearances by Amy Schumer, Jerry Seinfeld, Arsenio Hall, Leslie Jones, David Spade, Dana Carvey, JB Smoove, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
