On Monday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) warned owners of certified Computer Based Test (CBT) centers not to extort applicants or they would be subject to severe fines.
It acknowledged receiving information that certain operators charged applicants more than N700 for services performed, as noted in its weekly bulletin.
It reaffirmed that it would not allow any sort of exploitation and that offenders would be fined N100,000 after being made to refund the money they had taken.
“Centre owners are warned that failure to stop the nefarious act will result in a N100,000 fine and possible revocation of the JAMB licence.”
“Candidates are encouraged to report any CBT centre charging a fee in excess of the board’s stipulated fee for any of its services,” it said.
The board also expressed its expectation that the centers to which it had granted authorization to carry out certain tasks would work as anticipated.
To register applicants for part-time studies, Sandwich programs, National Open University of Nigeria programs, and remote learning programs, JAMB certified CBT centers in February.
After normally busy activities during the process, JAMB said that the licensure was carried out at the request of the CBT centers in order to relieve congestion in its offices nationwide.
