Canada’s Carleton Ravens Wins U Sports Women’s Final 8 Basketball Championship Gold Medal

The Carleton Ravens have emerged as champions in the U Sports Women’s Final 8 basketball championship by defeating the Queen’s Gaels 71-59.

The game was held at Sullivan Field House in Sydney, N.S. Kali Pocrnic was the top scorer for the Ravens with 20 points, while Teresa Donato and Dorcas Buisa contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively.

During the first half, the Ravens were trailing behind the Gaels 31-26. However, they made a remarkable comeback in the second half, outscoring their opponents 20-7 in the third quarter and 25-21 in the final frame.

This victory marks the second championship win for the Ravens in program history, with their previous win occurring in 2018.

Laura Donovan of the Queen’s Gaels led the team in scoring with 23 points, while Bridget Mulholland contributed 17.

Meanwhile, the Alberta Pandas secured the bronze medal by defeating the Saint Mary’s Huskies with a score of 64-49. Jenna Harpe led the Pandas with 17 points, while Emma Kary contributed 11.

The Huskies’ top scorers were Alaina McMillan with 13 points and Lucina Beaumont with 12, with Marlo Steenbakkers chipping in with 10 points.

Overall, it was a well-fought battle between the competing teams, with the Carleton Ravens ultimately emerging as the champions of the U Sports Women’s Final 8 basketball championship, securing the gold medal.
