A California math teacher, Siu Kong Sit, was arrested on Monday at Beckman High School in Irvine, CA, after being caught allegedly recording students in an all-gender restroom near the school’s swimming pool. A contracted maintenance worker discovered the recording device and turned it over to school administrators who alerted the police. Sit was charged with possessing or manufacturing child pornography, burglary, and two misdemeanours, and was booked into the Orange County Jail.
Police found ‘images of several victims’ on the recording device and are investigating to identify more potential victims who may have been secretly exposed. It is unclear if all the victims were students or if they included teachers and administrative staff. Further details about the ‘recording device’ have not been shared, but the charges Sit is facing suggest it was used to take pictures or videos.
In response to the incident, Beckman High School’s Superintendent Mark E. Johnson sent out a letter to parents confirming the situation and stating that the school had placed the employee on indefinite administrative leave.
