Charles Sutherland, a former elementary school librarian, was arrested for possessing child pornography and a child-sized doll in his bed.
The arrest followed a seven-month-long police search of his laptop, which was seized from his home in Takoma Park, Maryland, in June.
Sutherland had been arrested previously after spray-painting the word ‘groomer’ on two libraries during Pride month.
During the search, officers found children’s dolls, diapers, and a child-size doll, despite Sutherland not having any children.
Sutherland confessed to having child pornography and was placed on leave from his school. He is being held without bond and awaiting trial in April for the child pornography charges.
Sutherland’s arrest documents showed that he likely attacked the two libraries because of their support for the LGBTQ community.
A year before the attack, he sent a letter to the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, asking them to reconsider celebrating Pride month or at least refrain from making pride displays for small children.
Sutherland has not been convicted for his vandalism charges and will appear in court later this year.
