Brits bosses contemplate reintroducing Best Female category after no women were nominated

After no women made the shortlist for its new gender-neutral award, Brit Awards organizers are in talks to reinstate separate categories for best male and female musician.

Non-binary musicians, who identify as neither male nor female, said they felt alienated when music industry leaders eliminated the two categories in an effort to be more inclusive and current. This decision sparked a reaction.

Adele was presented with the first gender-neutral award last year, but in her acceptance speech she emphasized her femininity.

Last week, it was announced that this year’s shortlist consisted solely of men, and it is said that she also expressed her dismay.

According to a source in the music industry, Adele was disappointed that no women were nominated for artist of the year. She is a strong advocate for women in the workplace and found this to be a truly tragic event.

Damian Christian, the chairman of the Brit Awards and managing director of Atlantic Records, reportedly feels “a little awkward” about the fact that only male talents Central Cee, Fred Again, George Ezra, Harry Styles, and Stormzy were nominated. The only female artist nominated for album of the year was Wet Leg.

Barbara Charone, a well-respected PR expert in the sector, has voiced her worry in response to the complaints received by event executives. Women in the music industry have been outraged since the nominees were released, according to a source.

“It is an absolute disgrace that gender-neutrality appears to have led to the eradication of nearly all female presence at the most important awards ceremony in the industry’s calendar.”

The pledge is that this will never occur again. The recommendation to the committee is to reinstate the best female category for the Brits 2024.

‘Those on the committee are obviously extremely embarrassed by this and are aware that reversing the decision is the only solution. This is what they are now discussing.’

A Brits spokeswoman stated that it was ‘disappointing’ that no women reached the shortlist for best artist, but that less prominent women artists with major releases were active in 2022.

Next month, winners will be unveiled at the O2 venue in London. Excluding mixed groups, 15 female acts and 28 male acts were nominated across 12 categories.
