A female category has been included in the Pirates cup which begins in less than a month

Teams have just under a month until the start of the sixth edition of the Pirates Cup, and the clock is ticking.

Teams are asked to submit their registration paperwork before the deadline because the registration deadline is drawing near.

A female division will be included for the first time in the tournament’s history, and the overall prize money has grown.

The winning male team will receive R70,000, while the second- and third-place teams will each receive R35,000 and R10,000.

The top prize for the female class is R40,000. R5,000 for third place, R10,000 for second.

The Tournament MVPs and Top Goal Scorers of the corresponding categories will also be eligible for individual awards.

Some of the top under-21 athletes compete in the Pirates Cup, a fiercely competitive event, for the prized trophy. In a closely fought final in 2022, Zimbabwean team Bosso 90 (Highlanders) were defeated by Ambassadors 2-1.

The competition offers players a chance to be seen by professional clubs and scouts as well as a platform for young football potential. Many of the athletes that took part in earlier competitions went on to play in the DStv Premiership.

From March 18 to 21, the competition will take place at the Marks Park Sports Grounds.
