British father in Mexico accused of seizure

The first image of a British father-of-four who is battling for his life in Mexico after hitting his head during what is believed to be a seizure.

Paul McKenna, 33, received the horrific injury on Sunday at the Moon Palace hotel in the Puerto Morelos region while spending the last day of a two-week family vacation in Cancun with his wife, Amy, four children, and in-laws.

According to his relatives, McKenna, who is from Bootle near Liverpool, had the suspected seizure before slamming his head on the hotel room floor. He was immediately taken to the hospital and put on life support.

Due to the fact that McKenna’s travel insurance does not cover his present state, his family and friends are frantically attempting to fund $100,000 on JustGiving to pay his medical expenses.

Electrician McKenna has been transferred three times during the last two days in order to obtain specialised care.

McKenna was scheduled to return to the UK the day after the event, but his family and friends claim it is still unclear if he had a brain haemorrhage or a stroke.

Initial reports in the local media claimed that a British visitor had fallen off a balcony and hit his head, but according to the man’s family, he may have had a seizure before hitting his head on the hotel room floor.

Joe Snellgrove, a 20-year acquaintance of McKenna’s, said that it is unclear what may have triggered the alleged seizure.

Because the family had been sick, “they suspect it originated with some type of illness,” Snellgrove added. He had a seizure on Sunday, collapsed, and hit his head. After that, he was put into a coma.

He said, “The first fear was that he had a stroke, but the current issue is that he has had a brain haemorrhage. There is still some ambiguity over what occurred.

We’re heartbroken, Snellgrove said. He’s a great guy and would assist anybody who needs it. For example, he immediately came to my aid when my home sustained damage during a hurricane last year.

We lost our chairman at the Maghull Cricket Club, who handled every aspect of the club’s operations, and Paul took over.

He does all of the local tasks. Everyone in the neighbourhood is outraged and worried since he is so well-known.

To gather money for McKenna’s medical care and his family’s lodging so they may visit him in the hospital in Mexico, Snellgrove and his buddy James Stanley created the JustGiving website.

Stanley commented, “Please if you can find it in your brain at these difficult times, any support would be highly appreciated. Paul is a lovely guy with a fantastic family and a great friend to many.”

More than $26,500 has already been donated, with Jamie Carragher, a footballing great for Liverpool, contributing £5,000 to the family.
