British Embassy in Amman launches new initiative called the ‘Ambassador for a Day’

The British Embassy in Amman has launched a new initiative called the ‘Ambassador for a Day competition, inviting young women in Jordan to apply for the opportunity to experience diplomatic work firsthand and join a network of female leaders advocating for gender equality and social inclusion in Jordan.

The competition celebrates International Women’s Day on 8 March 2023, which highlights the UN theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’ and promotes a gender-equal world to embrace equity.

The initiative is open to all young women between the ages of 18 to 25 years old, residing in Jordan, and the competition is open from 8 March to 27 April 2023.

The winners will have the chance to ‘shadow’ the British Ambassador and the embassy’s female leadership team for a day, as well as be invited to an event organized by the British Embassy in Amman with senior representatives from stakeholder organizations in Jordan.

To apply, candidates must answer the following question: “If you were Ambassador for a day, what steps would you take to promote gender equality in Jordan?” and record a video up to a maximum limit of 1 minute and 30 seconds, suitable for social media.

The video can be recorded on a mobile phone or tablet in English or Arabic, and shared on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram by tagging ‘@UKinJordan’ and using the hashtag ‘#UKAmb4aDay’. Candidates can also email their videos to UKAmb4aDay@gmail.com.

The competition encourages applicants to think creatively and use IT and digital skills creatively. The Embassy will post a selection of the top content submitted on its social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The initiative is aimed at empowering young women in Jordan to make a positive difference in their communities and to contribute to better outcomes for all. The British Ambassador Bridget Brind emphasizes the importance of promoting the inclusion and greater participation of women in society, to help them fulfil their potential and contribute to a better future for everyone.

It is worth noting that only one entry per participant will be accepted, and relatives of British embassy staff are not eligible to apply. The embassy will select the winner, who will be contacted and announced on @UKinIndia social media channels by 10 May 2023.

By applying to the competition, participants transfer the copyright ownership of their videos to the British Embassy, which may use these videos to produce content for future communication on its social media channels. Participants should not share personal details in their videos, post, or tweet, and the British embassy is not responsible for the data that participants make public on these platforms.
