Students participate in the ‘Youth Challenge’ organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) with the support of the British Embassy in Asuncion

Five student groups from Asuncion, San Lorenzo, Fernando de la Mora, Ciudad del Este, and San Pedro took part in a workshop where they improved the ideas they had already made with the assistance of mentors.

The workshop was held throughout the weekend of June 25 in 2022.

The two finest concepts were chosen by a panel that included Antonieta Rojas de Arias and Alberto Yanovsky, both members of the Scientific Society of Paraguay. UNICEF will provide assistance in its implementation.

Rojas stated:

The fact that all the groups exhibit a strong devotion to all the procedures, biodiversity conservation, and the interaction between the community and the environment has made it very fantastic.

Yonobsky also said

The ideas are inspiring. You leave feeling rejuvenated after witnessing the vitality that young people possess.

One of the chosen projects suggests establishing urban gardens in Luque to produce organic food sustainably while also treating the grey water produced in schools.

The second suggests setting up trash cans and a compost bin to handle waste from three educational institutions in the Guayaibi, San Pedro, department.

Deputy Representative for UNICEF Viviana Limpias stated:

There are numerous opportunities to do many things in Paraguay, but our organization can’t take advantage of those opportunities without your help, your ingenuity, and your strength.

We wish to keep advancing ideas like this and help you in your efforts and excitement.

John Davie, the deputy chief of mission for the British Embassy, said:

The breadth of the young people’s knowledge on the subject of climate change really shocked me.

The Youth Challenge strives to empower young people and develop skills for employability and social impact.

It is a component of the worldwide cooperation “Generation Unlimited,” which aspires to guarantee that by 2030 all teenagers and young adults have access to education, learning, training, or employment in order to create a better future.
