Brisbane police pursue suspect in deadly shooting

After a man was shot and killed in the front yard of a house in southwest Brisbane, four men and a woman are on the run.

Early on Tuesday morning, a 38-year-old man was fatally wounded after being hit once in the chest from a close distance at a residence on Oxley’s Cleveden Avenue.

According to Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham, the assault featured four males, a lady, a 12 gauge shotgun, and maybe a pistol.

He told reporters on Tuesday, “The guy dead was hit at extremely close range, and we think the weapon involved was a 12 gauge shotgun.”

According to Det Supt Massingham, the guy was inside a vehicle parked next to the house when the five arrived and began attacking another man who lived there.

When the guy was shot, the 38-year-old stepped out of his vehicle and began going to the victim’s help.

The second guy, who has minor wounds, is now being questioned by authorities.

The two males and the five suspects got into a fight one to two weeks before the shooting, which the police are looking into.

Det Supt Massingham said that there was “certainly tremendous tension among the whole group.”

He said that the conflict had nothing to do with the current spate of gang shootings in the south of the city.

About 30 to 40 seconds into the assault, neighbors heard many shots being fired.

Detectives are still looking for the five and looking over surveillance video of a vehicle driving away from the location, which is just across the street from a primary school.

Det Supt Massingham said that there could have been a second automobile, however.

He exhorted anybody with knowledge of the assault or the location of the accused perpetrators to get in touch with authorities.

Det Supt Massingham said, “We have a lot of people with substantial weapons, and it’s crucial that we harness what information is available in the community this morning to put us on the correct course.”

Hundreds of children were scheduled to return to class after summer break less than six hours after the incident that took place across the street from Corinda State School.

The peaceful, mostly residential neighbourhood also has a preschool and a daycare facility on that block.

On Tuesday morning, the student drop-off area was shut down, and parents were advised to give themselves more time to bring their kids to school.
