Bongiwe “Slender” Thusi, one of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ players with longest tenure departs team

Bongiwe “Slender” Thusi, one of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ players with the longest tenure, has departed the team.

Bongiwe has been a crucial player for the Chloorkop-based team since she joined the club in 2011 from the Phomolong Ladies Team. During her time there, the team has won multiple trophies.

Slender was a member of the squads that won the Sasol Women’s National League championships in 2013 and 2015.

The Tembisa-born offensive midfielder was also a key player in Sundowns Ladies’ recent run of Hollywoodbets Super League dominance, which included three straight titles.

When the Brazilians defeated the Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea in a 5-4 penalty shootout in the semifinal of the first TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League last year, Bongiwe once again displayed her class.

Sundowns Ladies would go on to triumph in the match and become the first team to ever win the top women’s championship on the continent.

It’s difficult to say goodbye to a standout player who gave so much of themselves and so much grit to the team for more than a decade. The memories established with Bongiwe will always be lovingly associated with each trophy won during her reign.

Join us Masandawana as we send Bongiwe our best wishes for her future in football and express our gratitude for the special years she spent with the Club.

We are confident that Slender will always be a part of Mamelodi Sundowns and that the trip we took together will live on in our hearts forever.
