Before Nicola Sturgeon’s sudden resignation, Labour trails SNP by two points in Scotland

Even before Nicola Sturgeon’s departure, a survey revealed that Labour was just two points behind the SNP in Scotland.

Voters’ support for the incumbents has declined, with the SNP currently receiving only 29% of Scottish voters’ support, down from 45% in the last general election in 2019.

A YouGov survey taken in the days before the First Minister’s unexpected departure shows that Labour’s support has risen to 27%.

Support for the Tories has decreased by more than 50% to 13%.

The ratings might signal a revival for Labour in Scotland, easing Sir Keir Starmer’s road to No. 10, given support for independence has also decreased to only 40%.

The survey’s commissioner, Professor Ailsa Henderson, said that “Scotland people regard the upcoming UK election as a means to oust the Conservatives from government.”

Almost 5% of Ms. Sturgeon’s 2019 supporters could now choose Labour.

None of the possible [SNP] competitors now possess the demonstrated persuasive power of Nicola Sturgeon and Alex Salmond, according to polling expert Sir John Curtice who said as much on Times Radio.
