Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s First Minister and the former leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP), has made a public appearance at the Scottish Parliament for the first time since her husband, Peter Murrell, was arrested in a police investigation into SNP finances.
The party’s treasurer, Colin Beattie, was also arrested in the same probe.
Sturgeon stated that she could not have anticipated the events the SNP has faced in her “worst nightmares”.
Sturgeon declined to go into details of the police investigation while it remains ongoing.
Beattie, who remains an SNP Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP), recently denied knowing about the purchase of a £100,000 motorhome by the party, which was apparently never used.
The police have seized the motorhome as part of their investigation.
Beattie has also denied that the SNP is in financial difficulty, insisting that the party is “in the black” and a “going concern”.
The SNP’s Westminster leader, Stephen Flynn, has also been asked about the motorhome at a London event.
He stated that he became aware of the purchase “when it was printed on the front of a newspaper”.
