The situation arose after the military junta in the Niger Republic cut ties with Nigeria when the efforts by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to reinstate the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum proved unsuccessful.

In response to this development, Nigeria’s President and Chairman of ECOWAS, Bola Tinubu, wrote to the Senate, seeking its support for a military intervention against the military junta in the Niger Republic.

This move has drawn significant attention and opinions from various quarters.

Regarding the proposed military action, Bashir El-Rufai shared his thoughts, asserting that the Nigerian army has the capability to capture Niamey, the capital of the Niger Republic, within a remarkably short period of 13 hours.

Bashir El-Rufai quoted a video shared by a Twitter user who praised the army of Niger Republic, seemingly highlighting the potential challenges they may face in combat.

While expressing his disapproval of war, he expressed the hope that the Nigerian military would demonstrate its strength and swiftly capture Niger within the specified time frame.

The Twitter user, with the handle @chimaobi_nteoma, showcased the soldiers of Niger Republic, which triggered El-Rufai’s response.

Despite his wish for a peaceful resolution, El-Rufai’s remarks reflected his desire for the Nigerian military to exhibit their prowess and efficiency in the face of the ongoing situation in Niger Republic.

However, it is essential to emphasize that his statement was made in response to a video and not a direct call for conflict.
