Antony’s signing for Manchester United is ‘amazing’

London – Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax on Thursday for an estimated £81.3 million, becoming him the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history.

The 22-year-old Brazilian international forward has signed a deal with an additional year’s option through 2027.

The fee includes future add-ons of five million euros.

Antony said in a statement on Manchester United’s website, “Joining one of the most illustrious clubs in the world is a wonderful milestone in my career.”

His transfer value is a record for an Eredivisie player, surpassing Frenkie de Jong’s 86 million euro transfer from Ajax to Barcelona three years ago.

Ironically, de Jong was United’s top transfer target for this season, but they were unable to get his services.

Antony has scored 31 goals in 134 club appearances for Ajax and Sao Paulo, in addition to scoring two goals in nine international appearances for Brazil.

By coming to Old Trafford, he will rejoin with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who has already taken former Dutch giants defender Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United.

“Playing at Ajax under Erik ten Hag was ideal for my growth,” remarked Antony.

“His playing and coaching style brings out the best in me, and I am thrilled by what he has told me about his intentions and goals in Manchester.

“My time at Ajax was incredible, and I will always be grateful for the trust they placed in me. However, I am ready for the next challenge, and I cannot wait to join my new teammates and contribute to Manchester United’s success.”

John Murtough, the Manchester United Football Director, was impressed by Antony’s determination to play for the club despite not qualifying for the Champions League this season.

“Antony is one of the most exciting young players in European football, and his profile is ideal for the aggressive, dynamic team that Erik is constructing,” he added.

Antony has joined Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and fellow Brazilian Casemiro as one of Hag’s eleven new recruits since becoming leadership.

As David de Gea’s backup, veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is poised to join Manchester United from Newcastle United.

United has rebounded from a poor start to the Premier League season and will attempt to win their third consecutive match against out of form Leicester on Thursday.
