An anesthetist who is accused of sexually assaulting a pregnant patient during a C-section may have also attacked two other moms that day.
After allegedly secretly filming a woman at the Hospital da Mulher in So Joo de Meriti, Rio de Janeiro, being orally raped after being deeply drugged, Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, 32, was detained on suspicion of rape.
The woman’s husband was instructed to leave the room without being allowed to view his newborn child; he didn’t learn what had happened to his wife until after the doctor’s arrest, when he recognized him on television.
The delegate in charge of looking into the matter, Barbara Lomba, remarked, “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The woman confided in her relatives that she believed the incident to have been a hallucination.
Just two months ago, Mr. Bezerra finished his anesthesia medical training.
According to reports, hospital employees installed a covert camera to monitor his activities because they were concerned about the dosage of medications he was allegedly giving his patients.
They watched in horror as he sexually assaulted the woman while behind a surgical curtain, less than a yard away, other medical professionals performed the C-section on her.
According to reports, he attacked her for about ten minutes.
Police are looking into whether two other women who were seen by the doctor that day for identical attacks were also raped, according to staff members who witnessed the rape.
Employees reported that Giovanni “wore an open cloak on himself, expanding his silhouette, and positioned himself in such a way that also prohibited anyone from seeing the patient from the neck up” during the second procedure on Sunday.
Most C-sections do not completely sedate the patient during the process, but the ladies who had surgeries earlier in the day reported being completely asleep.
