In the Wednesday episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” podcaster Joe Rogan joked that the Democratic Party’s strategy involves catering to the desires of the “lazy and fat.”
Bridget Phetasy, a writer and stand-up comedian, asked, “Aren’t they now connecting being healthy to the far-right?” after discussing how some liberals have derided the very notion of freedom as a far-right concept.
Phetasy continued, “I’ve read so many articles that say something like, ‘Oh, the far-obsession right’s with being in shape,’ as if it were a bad thing.”
Rogan concurred and remarked, “There’s a huge portion of our population that is extremely lazy and obese, and if you want them on your team, you have to say, ‘There’s nothing wrong with being lazy and obese; in fact, not being lazy and obese is connected to misogyny, racism, fascism, and the far right’ – so people are like, ‘Great, let’s just eat donuts and vote blue’.”
Phetasy argued that there are fat and lazy people on both sides of the political spectrum, stating, “That’s why I always joke that the United States is too fat for a civil war.”

Rogan distinguished between obese people who are lazy and those who work hard but choose unhealthy diets.
He continued by arguing that the American left is more aligned with the political side of the idle: “Well, who is pushing for universal basic income? Who advocates for wealth redistribution? That is everyone on the left.”
Rogan has previously criticized those who defend unhealthy dietary choices.
During a December conversation with fitness influencer Derek of the “More Plates, More Dates” YouTube channel, he criticized “fat professors,” saying, “F— off fat professors, f— off, you guys are unhealthy, it’s not good at all.”
In that episode, the two appeared to reference a document from the University of British Columbia that defended the removal of nutritional information from menus on the grounds that putting the number of calories next to an item can be “triggering” for certain students.
Rogan also recalled a viral video of a female professor stating that avoiding certain foods is “fatphobic” and “not supported by science.”
In addition, he recalled the woman saying, “You shouldn’t deny yourself donuts” and “it is incorrect to refer to certain foods as “junk food.”
