Alex Murdaugh claims he stole over $10m to fund a crippling opioid habit

Alex Murdaugh has admitted to stealing over $10 million from his law firm to fuel his opioid addiction, which he claims was triggered by a college football injury.

He told jurors in his double murder trial that he was taking more than 60 oxycodone pills a day, paying up to $60,000 a week to his drug dealer cousin for personal consumption.

Murdaugh admitted to having a pocket full of pills the day after he is accused of killing his wife and son. He also made large donations to the Democrat Party and local foundations, owned lavish properties, and drove top-of-the-range vehicles.

Following his murder trial, Murdaugh faces judgment for two conspiracy counts relating to the alleged supply of opioids alongside his cousin. His defense team has suggested that a local gang could have been behind the murders of his wife and son.
