Al Ahly attacker Percy Tau creates history with his Club World Cup goal

Wednesday, Al Ahly forward Percy Tau scored his second FIFA Club World Cup goal, helping the African giants to a 3-0 victory over Auckland City.

The South African international substituted in the final 15 minutes to experience his first Club World Cup since the 2016/17 campaign.

Al Ahly was advancing in the 86th minute when, after receiving a pass from Kahraba, he was able to register a goal after receiving a pass.

This was Tau’s second career goal at the global club championship after scoring against Jeonbuk Hyundai for Mamelodi Sundowns in December 2016.

Tau was on the losing side in 2016 when Jeonbuk defeated Sundowns 4-1, however he was on the winning side this time around.

No other South African player has scored more Club World Cup goals than Tau, and he intends to build on this accomplishment.

Al Ahly are aiming for gold at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup despite failing to do so for two consecutive years under Pitso Mosimane.

In 2020, Mosimane guided Al Ahly to an unprecedented third-place finish, earning the team a bronze medal. The same was true in 2021.

Tau was injured at the time (2021), thus he was unable to play, yet Mosimane included him in his FIFA Club World Cup roster.

Tau is now expected to make a significant contribution to Al Ahly, especially after opening his account in this year’s games.
