A councillor for the Democratic Alliance (DA) has been arrested for the attempted murder of Walter Molapo, a councillor for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Fetakgomo-Tubatse Municipality in Limpopo.
Supposedly, the alleged incident occurred during a Council meeting on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
According to the Red Berets in Limpopo, the DA councillor arrived at a municipal meeting armed with a firearm and began insulting the party’s councillors. When Molapo reacted, he became a target and was thereafter followed to the restroom. He was then allegedly pointed at with a firearm.

Titus Tshungu, a spokesperson for the EFF in the province, stated that a complaint of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily injury and pointing a firearm had been opened against the DA councillor at the Apel Police Station.
The DA councillor is set to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate Court on February 2nd, according to Tshungu.

The EFF further said that the DA councillor filed a counter allegation of malicious damage to property after driving his own vehicle into the municipality’s gate to create the impression that he, too, was under attack.
“The EFF strongly condemns the DA councillor’s violent and aggressive behavior, which undermines Council proceedings and endangers the lives of other councillors.” Clearly, these disruptive intentions were malicious, and he must face disciplinary punishment from the town. His violent behavior cannot be condoned,” Tshungu continued.
