Madrid destroyed Percy Tau’s Al-Ahly in the Fifa Club World Cup semifinals

The return of Jadon Sancho helps Manchester United salvage a point. Wednesday night’s semi-final match between Al-Ahly and Real Madrid resulted in Al-elimination Ahly’s from the Fifa Club World Cup. Real Madrid defeated Al-Ahly 4-1.

Tau was overlooked by newly appointed coach Marcel Koller against the European champions despite displaying a strong performance in their tournament opener against Auckland City, scoring the third goal in a 3-0 triumph, and starting in a 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders.

The South African-born striker came off the bench in the second half to replace Mohamed Sherif and struggled to make an impression against the Spanish giants, with his team already behind 2-0.

It was Tau’s third time against Madrid, having last faced them in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League in 2019 during his time with Club Brugge, where he delivered one of his best performances in a 2-2 tie at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ali Maaloul, a Tunisian international, converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute after Hussein El Shahat was pulled down by Eduador Camavinga – sending goalkeeper Andriy Lunin the wrong way – to cut the deficit to one goal for the African champions.

The goals scored by Brazilian Rodrygo and substitute Sergio Arribas in stoppage time secured Madrid’s berth in the championship match.
