Percy’s unpopular Al Ahly: Tau not seriously hurt

Johannesburg – Percy Tau is receiving rehabilitation after a quadriceps injury, according to an update provided by Al Ahly.

The South African has dropped in the club’s pecking order since Pitso Mosimane’s departure earlier this year. It is widely believed that he will quit the Red Devils at the conclusion of the current Egyptian Premier League season.

Tau has not only fallen out of favor, but he has also been omitted from the most recent Bafana Bafana roster that will compete in friendlies against Botswana and Sierra Leone.

“Tau has recovered from his injuries and is currently undergoing therapy,” stated Sayed Abdelhafiz, director of football for Al Ahly Club.

Tau could return to training with the club within a week, according to Abdelhafiz, indicating that the injury is not significant.

“The player is doing everything he has to do, and he should join the group training in about a week,” he stated.

Given that Al Ahly are in a rebuilding process and that Tau has garnered a great deal of resentment from Al Ahly supporters and analysts, it seems unlikely that he will remain with the club.

With Al Ahly almost set to lose the Egyptian Premier League crown to Zamalek once again, the club will likely move on from Tau in an effort to build a title-contending squad for next season.

Tau, who was once heralded as South Africa’s best hope for men’s football, may find it difficult to receive offers from quality European clubs now that he is 28 years old, and he did not make much of an effect when he played for Brighton and Hove Albion in the English Premier League.

In spite of this, he is sure to get numerous bids from South Africa and clubs outside of Europe’s so-called “top five leagues” due to his exceptional exploits in Belgium and South Africa over the years.

Tau must now decide if he wishes to return home for the prime of his career or continue his worldwide sojourn outside South African borders.
