After losing the James Bond theme song to Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran was “hurt”: I wrote it

The theme song for the most current James Bond film, “No Time to Die,” might have been performed by Ed Sheeran or Billie Eilish instead of Billie Eilish.

Sheeran stated on a recent episode of “That Peter Crouch Podcast” that he was on the verge of joining Adele, Sam Smith, and Madonna, who have all done Bond themes.

His remarks came after Crouch inquired whether he had performed a James Bond song.

“I was within a gnat’s pube of doing one,” Sheeran responded, adding that everything changed when the film’s producers altered the film’s direction.

“They switched directors and then scripts, and that was it,” he continued. “After completing all of the meetings, I began writing it.”

Billie Eilish, who co-wrote “No Time to Die” with her brother Finneas, replaced Sheeran. The track, which was produced by Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr, received critical accolades, including this year’s Oscar for Best Song. The New York Times reports that Eilish is the youngest performer to record a Bond theme.

Sheeran stated that he would accept the opportunity to compose music for the franchise in the future: “If they came back, I would say yes, of course, yes.”

With Daniel Craig’s term as James Bond gone, speculation is rampant regarding his successor. According to Deadline, producer Barbara Broccoli stated in June that the next Bond picture will be a “reinvention” and that filming may not begin for at least two years.

“No one is in contention,” she stated. “We are determining where to take him; we are discussing this matter. We cannot write a story until we choose how we will handle the next Bond picture, which is essentially a reinvention of the character. We are redefining who he is, which requires time.”
