Katy Perry expressed “huge” sadness that she did not collaborate with Billie Eilish.
The “California Gurls” singer revealed that she had the opportunity to duet with Eilish on her breakthrough single “Ocean Eyes,” but she passed since she found the song “boring.”
In a TikTok video aired by 102.7 KIIS FM on Friday, the 38-year-old revealed the potential collaboration to a group of admirers during what appeared to be an intimate performance.
Someone sent Perry an email with the subject line, “Hey, check out this new artist. I’d love for us to collaborate with her because she worked with me at Unsub Records.”
Eilish was not a household name at the time.
“The song was titled ‘Ocean Eyes,’ and it was just a blonde girl,” Perry revealed openly. “And I was like, ‘Meh, boring.’”
Perry then stated that declining the offer was a “huge mistake,” adding, “Don’t let this hit the Internet.”
“Ocean Eyes” is one of Eilish’s most famous songs to date and catapulted her to international fame.
Eilish has won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “No Time To Die” since her ascent to the top of the charts.
And neither party harbors any animosity against the other.
As seen by her 2021 documentary, “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry,” Perry and Eilish are friends.
Perry presented the “Bad Guy” singer to her husband, actor Orlando Bloom, but at first glimpse, Eilish had no idea who he was.
In the tape, Perry tells Eilish, “My fiancé, who doesn’t listen to modern music, will only play you in the car all the time.”
However, as the couple left, Eilish was uncertain as to who the man was. After Finneas, Eilish’s brother, informed her that Bloom starred in “Pirates of the Caribbean,” she began to fangirl naturally.
“That guy?! That was he?! she exclaimed. “No way! Bring him back to life. I would like to see him again. He gave me a peck on the cheek. I was unaware that was him. I assumed he was simply some random guy Katy Perry met.”
Fortunately, Bloom reappeared and gave her another embrace, which she valued more the second time around.
