Adele jokes that she “officially has an EGO” after winning an Emmy

Adele said that she now “officially has an EGO” after winning her first Emmy.

Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards presented Adele with the Outstanding Variety Spectacular (pre-recorded) trophy for her CBS special “Adele One Night Only.”

The megastar performed new songs for the first time in six years and conducted a personal chat with Oprah Winfrey on the special program that aired last November.

Additionally, “Adele One Night Only” won awards for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special, Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special, and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Special.

Adele is now one Tony Award away from EGOT status, which is awarded to stars who have won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Oscar, and a Tony Award.

And in response to the victory, while absent from the Los Angeles ceremony, Adele commented alongside photographs of herself with the award: “Heavens to Betsy, I am ecstatic! Thank you to @mrbenwinston for giving me this round this afternoon! I can confirm that I have an ego.

“I am so incredibly delighted to receive this, thank you so much @televisionacad!” Congratulations to all involved. Thank you for having me sing atop your mountain, @griffithobservatory, and congratulations to all the other nominees!”

Adele, the rap icon Eminem, and the Beatles legends Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr are now one Tony short of EGOT status.

This year, the “Lose Yourself” artist won Best Variety Special (Live) for the Super Bowl halftime show, while the surviving members of the Let it Be group received Emmys for their production roles in Peter Jackson’s documentary “The Beatles: Get Back.”
