According to TMZ, the deceased singer’s 3-year-old German Shepherd is currently residing with Melanie Martin’s relatives.
Melanie’s sister, Jennifer Martin, and her fiancé, Max, reportedly adopted the dog a day after Carter’s untimely death in his bathtub at age 34, with Zelda by his side.
The couple stated that it “felt right” to adopt Zelda because Melanie was “going through a lot” following the death of the former child star on November 5.
“[Zelda] appeared to be in shock when she was found, feeling apprehensive and frightened,” her parents told TMZ, adding that she is now doing “much better” after the horrific ordeal.
Zelda has previously given birth to two litters, thus the couple stated that she “won’t be spayed, but they don’t want any more puppies.”
Carter was also the father of a second dog named Karma. According to TMZ, she “wasn’t as shaken up as Zelda” and was adopted by a coworker of Jennifer’s.
Carter’s former manager, Taylor Helgeson, told Page Six earlier this week that cyberbullying “broke down” the singer over time.
Helgeson described the constant hatred the late “I Want Candy” singer endured as “a nightmare.” It was continuous. It was so relentless and, indeed, it did him in.”
After their years-long public feud, Helgeson informed us that Aaron Carter and his older brother, Nick Carter, were unable to resolve their differences.
The manager said of his relationship with the Backstreet Boys member, “I know they had plans to reconcile and forgive.”
“I do not know the specific date, but I do know that they intended to do so”
Nick, age 42, gave an emotive eulogy for his brother, in which he stated, “My love for him has never waned, despite our difficult relationship.”
“I have always clung to the notion that he will one day choose a healthy path and seek the assistance he so sorely required,” he continued. “Sometimes we wish to attribute a loss to someone or something. However, addiction and mental disease are the true villains here.”
When Aaron died, he was reportedly surrounded by compressed air cans and prescription bottles. His official cause of death will not be announced until toxicology results are obtained.
