In the southern suburbs of Adelaide, a South Australian lady was hit by a train and killed.

Just before 1 o’clock on Tuesday, the 63-year-old lady was struck close to Clarence Park Train Station in Black Forest.

When the lady crossed the tracks, it’s thought that she was trying to shield her dog from the approaching train.

Police said they are still looking into the events leading up to the deadly collision.

While emergency personnel responded to the location, the Seaford and Flinders railway lines were shut down.

Tuesday afternoon saw the reopening of the rail line to trains.
