Wales disabled woman on train misses her stop for 14 miles after no one helped her off the train

Claire Fisher, a 55-year-old woman who uses a mobility scooter due to arthritis, has expressed her dread for travelling home from work after experiencing difficulties on a train twice in a week.

On Thursday, March 6, no guard came to help her get off the train when she reached her stop, leaving her stranded on the train for over 14 miles.

Claire had been using the Transport for Wales (TfW) service in the evening to commute to work in Swansea.

After pulling the emergency call button, Claire was eventually escorted to a waiting room in Carmarthen Station, where she waited for a taxi.

However, she was later told there would be no taxi available, and she had to wait for the 8 pm service to take her back home.

Just a few days before the incident, on Monday, March 6, Claire had to be assisted by other passengers to get off the train at Burry Port after the guard told her there was no ramp for her to use.

Claire has since emailed a complaint to TfW, but she has not received an apology or response from them. She expressed that she is now terrified of travelling home in the evenings.

Marie Daly, Chief Customer and Culture Officer at TfW, has apologized to Claire for her poor experience and assured the public that they are looking into the matter urgently.

TfW has been working to improve accessibility in recent years, but there is still much work to be done to transform trains and stations and ensure that customers receive the necessary assistance.
