A 52-year-old man stabbed to death in a Shropshire market town

Following a tragic stabbing in Telford this morning, a man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Just before 11 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Fowler Close in Wellington to investigate complaints of an altercation between two men in the garden.

Officers arrived on a quiet residential street in the Shropshire market town and discovered a 52-year-old male with stab wounds in a critical condition.

While waiting for paramedics, the police performed basic first aid and attempted to resuscitate the stabbing victim.

However, their efforts were in vain, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

His next of kin has been notified, and he will be helped by specially trained officers.

According to West Mercia Police, a 64-year-old man was found nearby and arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is still being held by police.

The investigation’s lead detective, Detective Inspector Lee Holehouse, said:

‘We are in the very early stages of our investigation but we can reassure the public that our initial findings are that this is a contained matter involving two individuals that are known to each other.

‘I am mindful that there was a separate, unrelated, incident in Wellington last night and that these two incidents happening within 24 hours may, understandably, cause concern.

‘Thorough investigations will be carried out for both and you will see an increase presence from police across the town for your reassurance.

‘We are carrying out house to house enquiries in the area but we are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or any activity leading up to it, that hasn’t yet spoken to us to get in touch.’

It comes just hours after four guys were detained in connection with a stabbing that occurred late last night in the same town after a car accident.

At around 8 p.m. on Friday, two automobiles collided with a bus on Holyhead Road in Wellington.

A man in his twenties was found with stab wounds at the scene and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

West Mercia Police reported that four men aged 20 to 45 were arrested in connection with the incident, with one of them being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
