A 3-year-old boy dies in a hit-and-run accident at a daycare center in Melbourne’s Sunshine North.

A three-year-old kid was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in front of a daycare center, and authorities are on the lookout for the driver.

On McIntyre Rd in Sunshine North, Melbourne’s west, at about 6:30pm on Thursday, the youngster was struck in front of his ‘distraught’ mother and a number of other witnesses.

Emergency personnel hurried to the site and attempted to treat the boy’s life-threatening injuries as quickly as possible. He was sent to the hospital, where he died later.

Detectives are anxiously looking for the driver of a red Toyota Camry and are pleading with him to ‘bring himself in.’

‘In this case, you have the driver of a car for unknown reasons, they have failed to stop and help this child.

‘I can just only hope they didn’t know that it was a child, but if they did, what else can we say about them?’

Overnight, officers from Victoria’s Major Collision Unit combed the crime site, cordoning off the busy route and knocking on doors of neighboring homes and businesses, requesting CCTV footage of the occurrence.

As authorities investigated the site, a child’s shoe lay in the middle of the road.

‘Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident, including the driver, to come forward and contact police,’ police added.

‘Anyone who observed the event, has dashcam footage, or has any other information that could help police with their investigations is urged to call Crime Stoppers,’ said the statement.
